Acting Technique Practice

Make a “mini monologue” (about 30 seconds) that you completely make up on the spot, for each emotion. Try to move onto the next emotion as quickly as possibly, and you also get browny points for filming a video response and showing me your skills!

Bathroom Stall Inspiration

On Tuesday while I was at a sushi restaurant, I noticed that the bathroom was “vandalized” with inspirational and meaningful quotes. I find this such a wonderful way to brighten up somebody’s day. And yes, it may be disrespectful to the owners, but I guess we all have our views on things, and technically- a few wise words never hurt anybody.
Read more for the pictures I found and a little exclusive video.

Your Film Industry Career Options

You don’t have to be an actor, you know?
Suppose it’s not your truest passion and you’re not amazing at it, but you still love the film industry. You can do so many things tied to being an actor.

Here are a few other options you can always consider!

Scriptwriter
It would be beyond fun to actually write the actor’s lines and make audiences and millions of people laugh! Scriptwriters get to watch actors preform their written masterpiece and get the satisfaction of being a large contributor to the film industry. (Plus, they make a minimum of $32,290 and for big-name writers, $5,000,000 a year isn’t unheard of!)

Director
Admit it, you’ve considered this at least once in your lifetime! A director is in charge of assembling the film crew and guiding the look, sound and overall feel of the film. If power and being a leader is something you are naturally good at, consider this! But remember, it takes a while to build your name as a director.

Gaffer
When I first heard of this one, I believe I said “a what?” Turns out, the Gaffer is the head electrician on set, and is responsible for the lighting an making sure it suits the mood of the scene. And believe it or not, a gaffer is incredibly important for a movie, show, or theatrical presentation to look the way it should and be successful. How awkward would it be to watch a scene that is set in the daytime and have the set be pitch black? The gaffer is the go-to-assistant and is called the “best boy” and they can make $50,000-$70,000 a year, but the best gaffers can make hundreds of thousands.

Makeup artist
Putting pounds of makeup on actors is extremely fun, and males or females can do the job! If costumes and makeup interest you, give this a go! You can start being a makeup artist, right when you finish high school. All it takes is finishing a makeup artistry school.

Special Effects Technician
Love computer graphics and video editing? Consider this- special effects technicians meet with the director and other members of the crew in the early stages of pre-production to determine the desired look of the effects. Whether it’s a car blowing up and creating an explosion, or creating an underwater scene, special effects technicians are in charge of it all.

More Ideas!
Interested in production? Be a electrician, model prop builder, best boy lighting, rigger/light operator, gaffer or a production assistant.
Interested in special effects? Be a makeup fabricator, visual effects artist, or special effects technician.
Interested in writing? Be a scriptwriter for t.v. series, web series, movies, commercials, or short films.
Interested in makeup? Be a fashion & beauty makeup artist, makeup artist, wigmaker, key makeup artist, or makeup special effects fabricator.
Interested in art direction? Be a art director, wardrobe stylist, or set dresser!

What Happened During My “Audition”?

As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by someone who let me sit down to fill an application. I was sneaky enough to actually film the application form (where it didn’t reveal the name) and I feature it in the video below. Some parts of the application, I couldn’t fill in on the spot like my social insurance number, and my measurements. The agent came down and checked off “non-union” in a box and filled in my measurements.

Then he asked me about my past experience. I had mentioned in my application that I was an extra in Camp Rock 2, and he said that the volunteers were originally suppose to be paid extras, but the production company decided to use volunteers so many extras lost their job, which I found kind of funny that Camp Rock 2 would choose to save money on something like that.

Anyway, he then took my headshot that I brought with me, he told me that whenever there is a job, he calls first and then sends an email. If I can’t take the job, he said there would be no pressure but always make sure that you are positive that you can make it if you take the job. He also mentioned that once I got on set, I would have to fill in an application, and to never put my home address on my application, instead put the agency’s address. It was very quick and definitely exciting! I’ll get back to you guys once I start going more often!

freedom

You should know, I’m writing this after spending a day of writing an exam and coming home to do more continuous studying. I’ve said this time to time, and I am just realizing it again now, I never ever want to work an office or repetitive job

My mind feels like it’s going to explode and I just want to be freed and released from having to do all of these things that I don’t want to do. But I’m lucky, I get to do an exam and be over with it. But imagine having to do this for a living: getting up in the morning to go to work and hating your life while you’re there, wondering what the purpose of your existence is if you hate what you do every day, and then coming home, going to sleep and having to do it over and over again.

Bottom line is, follow your dreams. You may be poor, you may not have a place to sleep, but all is better than being trapped and doing something you hate.

incredibly unbelievably super sweet sixteen!

Birthdays are a, well, I’d love to say special time, but the harsh reality is that most of my birthdays after the age of 13 have been either whatever, or really bad. I think it was worth it, considering how amazing this year’s birthday was. Most teenagers dream of a glamourous sweet sixteen party. But me,  au contraire. I don’t see the joy in lashing out several thousands of dollars for other people’s entertainment. Isn’t it your special day?  So Instead, I just wanted to have a fun day with my mommy. I also don’t know how it happened, but she actually bought me a macbook pro, which i’m currently writing on right now. I’ve wanted one for like 10 years, so children let this be a lesson- you can have anything you want. Work hard, be dedicated and be open to new ideas. Anyways, onto the actual birthday; at first the plan was New York, then Niagara Falls, and then we decided to just go back to this beautiful creek that I spent my summers as a little kid. The whole ride there I couldn’t stop thinking, “some things really don’t change”, while listening to an ancient cd of U2. Your parents listen to that too, right? Haha well, I wanted to share my beautiful day with you guys, at least with some pictures.
The ride through the countryside
The gorgeous waterfall that you can actually jump into, except the current
will most definitely take you away...

Okay tell me this isn’t the cutest thing ever...
Earlier on in the day, before going to the creek.

This is a violeta blackcurrant cake made by dadu. If you ever see one,
buy ten.

Travel Vlogs?

Last year, as some of you may know, I went away to Russia and Greece for 4 weeks. This year, I'm going to Russia, quite possibly a bunch of Scandinavian countries and other random places, except in the span of 5 weeks.
Now, 5 weeks without thatsophiakid videos will be terribly impossible so I'm going to still be getting videos up in that time. However, I don't know if you guys would like to see me vlog and film in all of these beautiful places. I don't know if you guys think those videos should go on another channel or if they should all be on thatsophiakid. I'll try my hardest to bring a laptop with me, but knowing my mom, she will most definitely not let me do that haha
So let me know, would you be interested in travel vlogs and videos of different parts of the world?
Travelling is my greatest passion, so I would more than love to share that with you all.

The price of beauty

What makes humans (homo sapiens)  unique? One of the things, is our love and desire to be beautiful and see beautiful things. We simply treasure beauty and whether we realize it or not, spend hundreds and hundreds of dollars to look beautiful. I came across this thought in the shower, weirdly enough. I thought, "how much money do I spend a year on my appearance?" "Do I spend more than $100?" Which seems funny to some people, that spend thousands in just a month on things like extensions and surgical procedures.
Why do we spend all that money to look good?
What would we look like if we didn't care?
What would society look like if we all didn't care?
How much do YOU think you spend?

Shadiness of the modelling industry

A few days ago, I somehow came across a photo of a beautiful girl who's name was Ruslana Korshunova. I googled her name to find out exactly who and what she was, because her pictures looked familiar.
The shocking thing is that google told me this (at the time) 20 year old model committed suicide by jumping off of her 9th story New York apartment.
I found conspiracy theories suggesting that she got pushed because she wanted to leave the modelling industry but the "mafia" wouldn't let her. I honestly just laughed at this. Then, people were saying the New York Underground World puts models in a position of prostitution and there are "creepy rich men" that pay these girls so that they can afford to live in New York. Once again, I laughed it off,
Kind of confused about all of this, I asked a Russian model Valeria Sokolova, if she thought this was true or if she ever experienced this. She herself said that this was all imaginary stuff that people make up.
Tying this off, I'd like to remind you guys that you should always always always read  the contracts you are given to sign. When your agency gives you a contract, take it to a lawyer!! Be aware of what you promise people and don't skip it just because of excitement. I made this mistake two years ago when I skimmed through the Camp Rock 2 confidentiality agreement... ya, let's say if you know what happened (shh) if you don't, lets never mention it again! :)

Have you ever heard any stories of models and actors who are apart of some secret contract or agency?

Fame is Overrated

I recently came across a statistic that claimed that 51% of high school students stated their overall goal in life was to become famous. Shocking? To me, it wasn't necessarily a surprise, but imagining that over half of my school considers their goal to become famous, kind of made me realize just how many people are really affected by the media. We tend to think celebrities have it all, but what is funny is that these celebrities hide in their homes from paparazzi, get tired of interviews and dismiss any questions, and are practically stalked and analyzed for the rest of their lives. Something I learned recently (which is based on a psychological study), is that kids that want to be famous have a history of being ignored or not given much attention at home or school. Apparently, this belief is not progressing onto the idea that all YouTubers are not given attention, but of course i'll have to deny that too haha.
So is wishing to become famous unrealistic and hopeless? My opinion? It can be.
I would say absolutely, but then again there's people like Spencer Pratt that feed off of fame and enjoy it in every narcissistic way possible.
I think if you do something you love, and do it for the passion- that can definitely make people like you, therefore bringing you fame.
I don't think being famous is something people should look to be, I think respect is so much more important.
Being a respected and passionate actor, is sooo much better than just being a "famous" actor.
Think of it this way- would you rather be famous but disrespected Rebecca Black, or less-famous but talented musician?
:)

Living Truthfully Under Imaginary Circumstances

"A Practical Handbook for the Actor" discusses the truth of the moment, which describes how an actor should react to a rehearsed scene as if it were the first time it was happening. This means no matter how many times you film your monologue, or practice, you should add improv whenever you can to make it as authentic as possible. (Number 1 Rule of Improv: never say no!) The chemistry of acting, no matter how similar the ingredients are from one another, can still produce a completely different reaction three, four, even seven times around, which keeps acting interesting!
Hope you guys get my idea :)

back on the bandwagon

Such an old saying, I know. but I feel like I'm getting old, not uploading videos for weeks.
If you're following my twitter, www.twitter.com/thatsophiakid, I'd assume you know I'm horribly sick
Even worse, I woke up this morning... with no voice. Should I take up American Sign Language or something because I swear, I need to film this video!
But besides me telling you guys all this kind of stuff, I want some requests!

What are some things you would like confirmed or explained about the industry? More about auditions? More about Disney? More about Acting Scouts and when they have these huge go-sees?

Youtube, thank you for making me laugh.

Basically, YouTube has decided to ever so intelligently "understand" what the person in a video is saying and translate it into words. You can try this out by going to almost any video and clicking the cc at the bottom bar. Let's just say it didn't really get the gist of it...

Yup guys, if you ever need to find auditions, honestly,
just call mass in Seattle or call France.

Greatest acting ever!

Not in any specific order, but I found some on the internet and some that I remember as amazing movies!
I really recommend watching these and analyzing why the acting was so amazing.
Requiem For A Dream ( was my favorite movie before i found...)
GIRL, INTERRUPTED! (amazing!!!!)
Johnny Depp- Pirates of the Carribean
Tom Hanks- Saving Private Ryan (I've seen this one in history class- it's pretty intense!)
Johnny Depp in Edward Scissorhands
Marlon Brando in Streetcar Named Desire/Viva Zapata/Godfather
Natalie Portman- Beautiful Girls
Kevin Spacey & Mena Suvari - American Beauty
Robin Williams - One Hour Photo
Dakota Fanning - I Am Sam

Any more acting movies you would recommend watching?

Theatre Show Review from last night (and technique)

Last night, I volunteered at a theatre that wasn't so local, but still around me somewhat
Basically, it was amazing. Not in the way they used props (they didn't use any) or any of that fancy stage equipment lights or stuff, it was so classic and you had to use your imagination to understand it
And that was what made it so powerful, the fact that the actors focused on making people  believe that they were in a certain position. They didn't change clothes at all, and they played like 5 different characters, simply changing one to another by doing an action.
So let that be kind of a trial thing, try to look in a mirror and try to be as many characters as you can by changing personalities, stories and accents :)
Let your imagination go wild, (and film it if you can and put it on youtube for me to see ) ;)

Magazines are bad?

I just watched a video where some philosopher said magazines and pictures of people living a "greater" life are bad for you because they make you (subconsciously) feel bad about yourself.
What do you think?
Personally I love fashion editorials and I like the beauty and cultural aspect of it, not so much of a "oh i wish I looked like that" kind of thing... but then again, I trust smart people haha

Book Recommendation!

Hey guys! A while ago somebody inboxed me (or told me elsewhere and i completely forgot) about an awesome acting book! So incase you're going to go to the mall sometime soon or you live near a bookstore or a library, try to find out if they have the book in stock. If you do read it, let me know. I'm thinking for my next contest I'll give away a book like this to the winner :)

Final decisions

I'm at that point in my 10th year where they are making us chose a career, in several classes and chose classes for next year that will be shown to universities.
For days I felt so much pressure and it was just new to me, this idea of having to chose from a doctor, lawyer, scientist, all that stuff that I honestly would never want to do. I love travelling, I love the world, I love culture and humanities. Oh and I'm only like..really good at it too. Except what kind of job does one who likes to travel get?! -.- a travel agent? lol. Basically, I found a "job" I would be over the moon about. It takes lots of university and entering economics.. which isn't my cup of tea to say the least. It's a one in a million job but I want to be that one, and I sure believe I can be :) I'm not telling anyone what it is because it sounds crazy and I don't want to explain to anyone what it entitles. But I also don't want to jinx it. I'm not one to talk talk talk, I'm one to do.

WHERE IS SUMMER?

There are around 132 days until summer for me... and might I say that I am so ready for it. I keep putting together outfits that would only work in the summer, and yesterday I walked outside and wanted to cry from how cold it was. Oh but the dreaded march month... I hate March. I feel like mother nature is taunting humans in March. It's hot one day, and you finally get excited to go out in  a sweater, and then the next day it's snowing. All the snow is melted one day and you get so happy, and the next it's all back. April is getting good, May is amazing, and June is just indescribable. February is one of my worst months too, I always get really antisocial and do stuff really out of my character... seriously why is there even a winter? I don't see a benefit to society or the earth. That was my rant.
Fini.
Picture taken by me, in the glorious month of may..

stop hating people, stop hating

Why put somebody down because they're trying to do their own thing?
Why put somebody down because of the way they look? They were born that way, and everybody is beautiful.
Why would you try to make someone feel less than you? There are better ways to raise your confidence.
It's gross, just gross and annoying when I see people trying to put others down for doing their own thing, for being different or for being unique.
Haters should be everybody's motivators :)
Don't embarrass yourselves haters, some can see right through you and see nothing but insecurities.

formspring

Hello :) I got a question today, about why I deleted my formspring. And I thought I really needed to write about it, instead. Let's just say, I really don't like formspring. At first it can be fun, getting asked irrelevant questions. However, you never get asked the questions you want to be asked, instead you get asked stuff that pushes your buttons, or doesn't interest you. Also, where did mystery go? Isn't it more fun to get to know somebody only by what you see, and not know what really goes on in their life? Formspring just lets people in on your life too close. In my opinion at least. So, I deleted it, and I didn't get it back, nor do I want it back.
What are you thoughts on formspring?

Macarons?

Today's post has a little bit of absolutely nothing to do with acting. I actually wanted to know, have any of you tried macarons? Because I've seen them around the internet and they looked amazing. I honestly could not even imagine how they would taste, but now that I've tried them, I would describe it as a sweet-crispy-jelly that is stiff... in other words, amazing. I know my pictures are not the best in the world, but I did manage to take some. For some reason, the ones my mom bought were almost 3 dollars a piece, and really really small. I thought they were suppose to be pretty decently big, but apparently, they're tiny. Right now, I want to go to Laduree in Paris and eat every macaron in the store.. I would.
Macarons anybody? ;)

Oh hey there!

Blogging has to be my favorite hobby ever, and since it's really annoying to have to do it with html, I decided to kick my old website and just create a blogger.
All of my old pages are still here, the downloads, everything! (except the ask me and request video page.. because I was getting overwhelming amounts of emails)
So here, I will pretty much blog everyday. Don't expect acting posts though, I might post how my day was, or things I want to do, anything really.
But if you have a tumblr, I have one too and you should follow me ;) foreverended.tumblr.com
but on there, I post complete nonsense haha
So I hope you guys like my new blogger, maybe this is easier for you to follow everyday, maybe not.
But I'm keeping this.
Oh, and thanks for 1,700 subs! I love you!
